100 grams Pudina (mint) leaves
7 Green Chillies (Hari Mirch)
1/2 inch Ginger (Adrak)
1 tsp Turmeric (haldi) powder
1 Onion (Pyaaz)
2 Tomatoes (Tamatar)
50 grams Poppy Seeds (Khus Khus)
25 grams Fennel Seeds (Saunf)
1 tsp Cumin (Jeera) Seeds
1 inch Cinnamon (Dalchini) Stick
2 bulbs Garlic (Lehsun)
1 tsp Black Pepper (Kali Mirch)
2 tsp Coriander (Dhania) Seeds
1 Lemon (Nimbu)
1 tsp Garam Masala
25 grams Cashew nuts (Kaju)
As per taste Salt (Namak)
100 ml Ghee (Clarified Butter)
500 ml Water (Paani)

Chicken Haryali is a delicious dish prepared with coriander leaves, mint leaves and aromatic spices.

Chicken Haryali is a one pot wonder ideal for weekends, get togethers and parties.

This recipe was shared by a family friend who is an excellent cook. It is a very easy dish to prepare and can be prepared by novices.

Let’s take a look at all the ingredients and the method to prepare it.

Chicken (murgi) pieces.

Ginger (adrak)

Green chillies (hari mirch), tomatoes (tamatar), lemon (nimbu).

Garlic (Lehsun) and Onion (Pyaaz).

Cashew nuts (kaju).

Ghee (clarified butter).

Firstly, grind fennel (saunf) seeds, cumin (jeera) seeds, black pepper (kali mirch), coriander (dhania) seeds and cinnamon (dalchini) sticks.

Now, add poppy seeds (khus khus) and grind again.

Add chopped green chillies (hari mirch), chopped garlic (lehsun) and chopped ginger (adrak).

Then, add chopped mint leaves (pudina).

Add chopped coriander (dhania) leaves.

Then add little water (paani) and grind it to a fine paste.

Add turmeric (haldi) powder and garam masala.

Squeeze lemon (nimbu) and grind it to a fine paste.

Heat ghee (clarified butter) in a kadhai (wok).

Once the ghee (clarified butter) melts, add the ground paste.

Fry the masala properly.

Add some water (paani) to the grinder in order to use the paste stuck to it’s side and remove it.

Add water (paani) and the masala water to the paste.

Once the masala comes to a boil and starts to thicken, add the chicken (murgi) pieces.

Mix everything properly and add salt (namak).

Once the chicken is almost cooked add the chopped onion (pyaaz).

Add chopped tomatoes (tamatar).

Mix everythimg properly and once the chicken along with the onion (pyaaz) and tomatoes (tamatar) are cooked, add the chopped cashew nuts (kaju).

Mix properly and add more water (paani) if you want more gravy. I have not added. I have kept it semi dry.

Step 1

Cut 1 kg chicken into pieces. Firstly grind 25 grams fennel (saunf) seeds, 1 tsp cumin (jeera) seeds, 1 tsp black pepper (kali mirch), 2 tsp coriander (dhania) seeds, 1 inch cinnamon (dalchini) stick. Then, add 50 grams poppy (khus khus) seeds and grind again. Add 1/2 inch ginger (adrak), 7 green chillies (hari mirch) and 1 bulb chopped garlic (lehsun) and grind. Finally, add chopped mint (pudina) leaves, chopped coriander (dhania) leaves, lemon juice of 1 lemon (nimbu), little water (paani) and grind to a fine paste.

Step 2

Heat 100 ml ghee (clarified butter) in a kadhai (wok). Add the ground paste and fry it properly. Add 500 ml water (paani) and salt (namak) as per taste. Once the masala comes to a boil and starts to thicken, add the chicken (murgi) pieces.

Once the chicken is almost cooked, add 1 chopped onion (pyaaz) and 2 chopped tomatoes (tamatar). Mix well. Once everything is cooked properly, add 25 grams chopped cashew nuts (kaju). If required, add more water (paani) to increase the quantity of the gravy. Your Chicken Hariyali is ready!!!
