1 1/2 cups Water (Paani)
5 Green Cardamom (Choti Elaichi)
5 Almonds (Badam)
2 tsp Warm Milk (Gun Guna Doodh)
1/4 tsp Kesar (Saffron)
2 tsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
1/2 Lemon (Nimbu)

Kesar Coconut Halwa is a unique, easy to prepare dish infused with the flavours of fresh coconut and kesar.

Kesar Coconut Halwa is a gluten free dessert and can be prepared to celebrate any occasion.

This Kesar Coconut Halwa is normally prepared by my mother during Diwali. It is a good accompaniment with all the savoury snacks prepared during the festival.

It is an ideal dish for people of all tastes. Even if you do not have a sweet tooth, you will love it as it is not overly sweet.

Now, let us see how to prepare this yummy Kesar Coconut Halwa.

Firstly, take grated coconut (nariyal).

Then, powdered sugar (pisi hui chini).

Kesar (saffron).

Ghee (clarified butter).

Green Cardamom (Choti elaichi).

Powder the green cardamom (choti elaichi) with a mortar and pestle.

Lemon (nimbu).

Soak almonds (badam) in water (paani) for at least 3 to 4 hours.

Peel the almonds (badam).

Slivered almonds (badam).

Water (paani).

Warm milk (gun guna doodh).

Soak the kesar (saffron) in the warm milk (gun guna doodh) for at least 30 minutes.

Put water (paani) in a kadhai (wok) and light the gas.

Then, add powdered sugar (pisi hui chini). Make sure you add the powdered sugar (pisi hui chini) before the water (paani) heats up.

Let it come to a boil.

Once it starts to come to a boil, add the lemon (nimbu) juice and turn off the gas stove.

Once you add the lemon (nimbu) juice, impurities if any, will rise to the top. Remove it with a ladle and then light the gas flame again.

Once the syrup reaches two string consistency, add the grated coconut (nariyal).

Then, add ghee (clarified butter).

Add the milk (doodh) infused with kesar (saffron). In case you do not have kesar (saffron), you may also add 2 pinches of kesar (saffron) food colour.

Add green cardamom (choti elaichi) powder.

Turn off the gas, mix everything properly and remove the kadhai (wok) from the gas stove.

Your Kesar Coconut Halwa is ready.

Serve the Kesar Coconut Halwa in bowls and garnish it with slivered almonds (badam).

Step 1

Put 1 1/2 cups of water (paani) in a kadhai (wok) and light the gas stove. Add 2 cups powdered sugar (pisi hui chini). Make sure you add the powdered sugar (pisi hui chini) before the water (paani) comes to boil.

Once it starts to come to a boil, add juice of 1/2 lemon (nimbu). if there are any impurities, they will rise to the top. Remove them with a ladle.

Once the syrup reaches a two string consistency, add the grated coconut (nariyal), then add ghee (clarified butter), then add the milk (doodh) infused with kesar (saffron) and finally green cardamom (choti elaichi) powder. Switch off the gas stove.

Mix everything properly and remove the kadhai (wok) from the gas stove. Your Kesar Coconut Halwa is ready. Serve the Kesar Coconut Halwa in bowls and garnish with slivered almonds (badam).
