Pepper Makhanas is a very healthy and tasty dish.

Pepper Makhanas can be prepared within 15 minutes. Makhanas are also called Lotus seeds, Fox nut, Euryale ferox or Gorgon nuts.

Makhanas are low in calories but rich in dietary fibre. It is also rich in protein and various minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium and phosphorus. It is low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Makhanas are very beneficial for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension and obesity.

In India, Makhanas are consumed a lot in North India. It is produced on a large scale in the state of Bihar and internationally in Korea, Japan and some parts of Russia.

Now, let us see how to prepare this simple and healthy Pepper Makhanas.

Take makhanas (lotus seeds) in a mixing bowl and add cooking oil (tel) to it.

Add black pepper (kali mirch) powder as per your taste. You may also use white pepper (safed mirch) powder if you like.

Now, add salt (namak) as per taste.

Mix everything properly with your hands.

Heat a kadhai (wok) and put the makhanas in it.

Stir it properly till it turns crispy and crunchy. Cook it on a medium flame, otherwise the makhanas will burn.

Once they are crispy and crunchy, turn off the flame. Your pepper makhanas are ready. Store them in an air tight container.

You can have these at any time of the day through out the year. Flavoured makhanas are also available in the market but I always prefer to prepare it at home.

Step 1

Take 100 grams makhanas (lotus seeds) in a mixing bowl. Add 1 tbsp cooking oil (tel), 1 tbsp black pepper (kali mirch) powder and salt (namak) as per taste.

Mix everything properly with your hands and put it in a kadhai (wok). Heat the gas stove and keep the flame on medium and roast till the makhanas are crisp.

Once they are crisp. put them in an air tight container so that they stay crisp for a long time.
