Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
200 grams White rice (Safed chawal)
1 tsp Mustard seeds (Rye)
1 tsp Urad Dal
1/4 tsp Fenugreek (methi) seeds
3 Green chillies (Hari mirch) slit
2 Dry red chillies (Sukhi lal mirch)
2 sprigs Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
5 tbsp Coconut (Nariyal) grated
As per taste Salt (Namak)
2 tbsp Cooking Oil (Tel)
3 cups Water for soaking rice (Paani)
3 cups Hot water(Garam Pani)

Tempered Coconut Rice is also known as Nuchi, this dish is perfect if you are feeling lazy and craving for home cooked dish which can be prepared in a jiffy. Tempered Coconut Rice (Nuchi) can also be eaten if you want to have a dish without onions (pyaaz) and garlic (lehsun).

Step 1

Soak the white rice (safed chawal) in water (paani) for 30 minutes.

In a wok, heat cooking oil (tel), temper it with urad dal, mustard seeds (rye), fenugreek (methi) seeds, broken dry red chillies ( sukhi lal mirch) and slit green chillies (hari mirch) and curry leaves (kadi patta).

Add the white rice (safed chawal) after draining the water (paani). Stir properly. Add the hot water (garam paani), salt (namak) and cover with a cloche.

Once it is cooked, add grated coconut (nariyal) and mix it properly.
